HER WORK

Belief is a beginning.
Showing up matters.

Books in young hands. Talent on a stage. Recognition for dedication. A closer look at the initiatives and community work that give Angelique’s values a practical expression.

01 / EDUCATION & LITERACY

A reader today.
New possibilities tomorrow.

Reading Is LIT

The “Reading Is LIT! with MP Romou” programme was announced in September 2022. Its plans included reading in primary schools, foster homes, and after-school programmes.

At Sister Marie Laurence Primary School, she adopted a class and committed to reading with it during the school year. She also donated books by Saint Martin author Tamara Leonard, helping children make a connection with local writers.

LOVING OUR TEACHERS OUT LOUD

Appreciation with a practical touch.

Through A Betta Place Foundation, Angelique brought local businesses together to thank the people working in education. The 2024 edition reached more than 1,100 teachers and school staff, with 28 businesses contributing discounts and complimentary offers.

It is a simple idea with a community behind it: make the people who care for our children feel valued, too.

Scholar Athlete & Artist Awards

In 2022, Angelique and the St. Martin Promoting Young Ambassadors Foundation launched an annual award initiative for graduating students, recognizing achievement in academics alongside sport and the arts.

The initiative grew from a monthly Excellence Awards programme highlighting young athletes and artists. Its focus is encouragement: recognizing the discipline it takes to develop a talent while keeping up with school.

An island listening.

Saint Martin Interscholastic Idols

Through the St. Martin Promoting Young Ambassadors Foundation, Angelique has helped give school-age performers a platform to share their talents.

Coverage of the 2026 Interscholastic Idols competition describes school choirs, guest performances, and former participants returning to encourage young artists. Angelique, identified as the foundation’s president, thanked the performers and the community behind the event.

Her own musical background and years with the Philipsburg Methodist Children’s Choir make this work a personal connection as well as a community commitment.

04 / COMMUNITY & CARE

A community includes
every generation.

Connection beyond the classroom

Angelique’s community work also reaches older residents. In October 2024, she joined seniors at the Home Away From Home Foundation and arranged a walker giveaway in recognition of International Day of Older People.

The report also describes earlier support, including helping secure internet access for the seniors’ programme in 2022. These are practical examples of her involvement beyond youth and education.
